P007D–P00A3 Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit High Bank 1
The voltage on this circuit is sitting near battery voltage. Typically a short to a positive feed, or a disconnected sensor floating high.
Can you drive it? The engine light will stay on and the car may run in a reduced-power mode. Read the freeze-frame data to see the conditions the fault was logged under.
Which code is which
Same fault, different cylinder or bank — diagnosed the same way. Several set together usually means one shared cause.

The definition
P007D: Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit High Bank 1.
P007D is a powertrain code (the engine or gearbox), defined by the SAE standard - it means the same thing on any make of car, and any generic OBD-II reader will decode it.
What to check first
Cheapest and fastest checks first:
- Unplug the sensor and check whether the signal falls. If it stays high, suspect the wiring rather than the sensor.
- Check the earth path - a missing earth makes a sensor read high.
What actually causes this on a VAG
"Circuit high" is the opposite of P007C: the voltage on the sensor's signal wire is higher than any real temperature would give. On this type of sensor that is exactly what an open circuit looks like - an unplugged connector, a broken wire, or a sensor that has gone open internally - and the ECU will typically be seeing an implausibly cold charge air reading. The engine will usually still run, on a substitute value, sometimes with less boost than usual.
Most likely causes, in order
- Sensor unplugged or connector not properly latched. Always check this first, because it costs nothing and this plug gets disturbed routinely. The sensor sits on the intake manifold, so anything involving the manifold, spark plugs, injectors, coil packs or turbo pipework puts hands right next to it - and this fault appearing straight after servicing or repair work is a strong hint. Check the plug is pushed fully home and the locking tab has clicked in; a plug that is on but not latched will work loose with vibration and give an intermittent version of this fault.
- Broken wire or a pushed-back terminal. Look inside the plug for a terminal that has retreated into the housing so it no longer meets its pin, and follow the loom for a break, a green corroded section, or damage where it is clipped or rubs. Gently tugging each wire individually at the back of the connector will often reveal one that has parted inside its insulation.
- The sensor has failed open internally. Confirm by elimination: if the connector is clean and latched, the terminals are sound and the wiring checks out, and the fault stays with the sensor plugged in, the sensor is the remaining candidate. On many of these engines it is a combined pressure and temperature sensor, so a pressure-related fault stored alongside this one supports the same conclusion.
Worth knowing: If this code appeared within a day or two of any garage work, check the connector before anything else and before paying for diagnosis - a plug knocked loose or left off is common enough that it's always worth two minutes of your own time first.
Reading the code is the easy part
A code names the circuit that complained. What tells you why is watching the sensor behind it while the engine runs — and that is where a code reader stops and a diagnostic tool starts.
VAGPULSE reads every module in a VW, Audi, Skoda or SEAT — not just the engine — shows the live measuring blocks behind this fault, gives you the freeze-frame conditions it was logged under, and clears it once you have fixed it. It also does what a generic OBD reader cannot on a VAG: service resets, coding, adaptations, and Stage 1–3 flashing with your original file saved first.
