P0445 is a powertrain code (the engine or gearbox), defined by the SAE standard - it means the same thing on any make of car, and any generic OBD-II reader will decode it.

What to check first

Cheapest and fastest checks first:

Read the freeze-frame data stored with the fault - engine speed, load and temperature at the moment it logged tell you whether this happens cold, hot or under load.
Check the connector at the part for corrosion, and that it is fully seated.
Clear the code and see whether it returns, and under what conditions.

What actually causes this on a VAG

Again the purge valve circuit, but this time the engine management has seen the opposite of P0444 - too much current, or the circuit pulled to power or earth when it shouldn't be. That's usually damaged insulation somewhere in the short run of wiring, or a solenoid that has broken down internally. If the control wire is shorted to earth the valve can end up held open, and then you may notice a lumpy idle, especially cold or just after refuelling - but plenty of cars with this code show nothing at all beyond the light.

Most likely causes, in order

Chafed or heat-damaged wiring. The tail of loom to the purge valve often passes close to hot parts. Heat hardens the insulation until it cracks and the wire touches the engine, a bracket or a heat shield. Inspect the whole visible run rather than just the ends.
Water, salt or oil in the connector. Contamination bridges the pins and looks like a short. Unplug it and look for green corrosion, damp or oily residue inside the housing, then clean and dry it and see whether the fault returns.
Internally shorted valve. With the plug off, a reading of near-zero across the valve's own terminals means the valve is the fault, and it's an inexpensive part to replace. Bear in mind a healthy purge solenoid reads low anyway, so compare against the correct coil resistance for your engine rather than treating any low reading as a short.
Loom pinched during previous work. A wire trapped under an engine cover, a bracket or a heat shield after a job in that area will short intermittently. Worth asking what was done to the car recently.

Worth knowing: Unplug the valve, clear the code and re-test before ordering parts. If a short is still reported with the valve disconnected, the fault lies in the harness or the ECU side and a new valve won't cure it - and fitting one into a harness that's still shorting is asking for the same failure again. If instead the fault changes to an open circuit once the valve is unplugged, the valve itself is the suspect.
